"The Seven-Ounce Man" continues the picaresque adventures of Brown Dog, a Michigan scoundrel who loves to eat, drink, and chase women, all while sailing along in the bottom 10 percent. "The Beige Dolorosa" is the haunting tale of an academic who, recovering from the repercussions of a sexual harassment scandal, turns to the natural world for solace. In each of these stories, the irresistible pull of nature becomes a magnificent backdrop for exploring the toughest questions about life and love.

The tension between interior and exterior has always been present in architecture, differently articulated over the centuries, and expressed through several means of representation. Contemporary architecture is often characterized by the total interpenetration of interior and exterior configurations: often the differentiation between these two dialectical poles has become undistinguishable, boundaries blurry and the result of any design process is a hybrid product, based on the superposition of different and heterogeneous layers. Starting from the 18th century, Interior Landscapes describes the principles of the relationship between interior and exterior landscapes in architecture. It unveils the invariant forms that have crossed the History of Architecture, and which have periodically re-emerged to shape contemporary design episodes. By borrowing different interpretative elements—drawings, photographs, illustrations—Interior Landscapes is configured as a visual atlas, aimed to demonstrate how, through the contamination of interior and exterior, always- new architectural insights emerge. Comprising detailed essays that contribute insightfully to the international discourse, Stefano Corbo unpacks the general re-organization of topics internal to the territory of architecture. This book distinguishes itself with almost 70 unique plates of etchings, sketches, illustrations and photographs, each linking carefully and directly the visual with the theory, providing unique entry points and examinations of this text’s fascinating observations.

From Japan's first Nobel laureate for literature, three superb stories explore the interplay between erotic fantasy and reality in a loner's mind. Kawabata's fiction is noted for combining a traditional Japanese aesthetic with modernist, often surreal trends: his richly lyrical prose is imbued with a sense of loneliness and alienation. In these three tales, underlying the erotic fantasy is the protagonists' lack of connection with other people, and their memories of past loves in an empty sterile life. The title story, "House of the Sleeping Beauties," is about a man who visits a brothel where elderly men can spend a chaste but lecherous night with a drugged, unconscious virgin. As he admires the girl's beauty, he recalls his past womanizing, and reflects on the relentless course of old age. In "One Arm," a young girl removes her right arm and gives it to the narrator to take home for the night, a surreal seduction follows as he speaks to it, tries to allay its fears, caresses it and even replaces his own right arm with it. "Of Birds and Beasts" is about a man who lives alone, with a housemaid, preferring the company of the birds and dogs he keeps to human beings. But rather than living animals, these are beautiful objects which, although they give him pleasure, he treats with casual cruelty, in much the same way as he treated his previous lover, a dancer. Beautiful yet chilling, poetic yet subtly disturbing, these stories make compelling reading.

Soviet mass housing is a contradictory but unique phenomenon. It is usuallyblamed for creating the most monotonous built environment in the history of mankind, thus constituting a symbol of individual suppression and dejection. The construction programme launched in the post-Stalinist era was the largest undertaken in modern architectural history worldwide. At the same time, Sovietmass housing fulfilled a colossal social role, providing tens of millions of families with their own apartments. It shaped the culture and everyday life of nearly all Sovietcitizens. Yet, due to the very scale of construction, it managed to evolve into a complex world denoting an abundance of myths and secrets, achievements and failures. Soviet mass housing is indisputably intriguing, but nevertheless it is still neglected as a theme of research. Therefore, the time is ripe for a critical appraisal of this ambitious project. The authors aim to identify the most significant mass housing series designed and engineered from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok. The set includes the hardcover book, card game and model: Top Trumps: Soviet Mass Housing by Dimitrij Zadorin, A card game for entertainment. I-464 by Katia Shenia, A gipsum model of the most produced panel series in the USSR.
